Other Linux desktops can use the shared tray integration with a StatusNotifier host. All integrations share the same backend and provider settings.

The latest interaction report checks all 12 integrations. GNOME, Plasma, Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce, LXQt, Sway, Budgie, i3, and bspwm passed their supported checks. Native panel widgets support all four edges; GNOME uses its top panel, and the Polybar profiles use top or bottom placement.

Hyprland still has a repeated-click issue after its popup takes focus. COSMIC’s test session was blocked by a compositor crash and needs a healthy session for full validation. These browser demos use sample data and do not reproduce compositor behavior.

  • Choose your components. Meters, percentages, logos, and names, in the order you prefer.

Create usage thresholds with a name, percentage used, and color. Turn notifications on for the thresholds that matter to you.

  • Custom thresholds. Add and delete states instead of being limited to the defaults.
  • Matched colors. Use the color picker or a hex value; both controls stay in sync.
  • Upward crossings. Notifications are triggered as usage moves up into a threshold, when enabled.
  • Quiet by default. The default warning, danger, and limit thresholds have notifications turned off.

The bar discovers providers through the backend. Preferences let you organize the installed integrations and add the sources that fit your workflow.

Choose what appears

Enable, disable, hide, and drag-reorder providers. Enabled, disabled, plugin, and hidden sections help keep a large provider list manageable.

Several accounts or sources

Create a named provider instance as a separate switcher tab, or group extra sources inside an existing provider tab. Reorder the child sections independently.

API token tracking

Add API tracking as another source when the provider supports API keys, or switch an existing source to the available API mode.

Custom command providers

Connect a command that prints a UsageStat-style usage JSON object or array. Give the source a name and remove it later without deleting the built-in provider.

Provider support follows your backend. The bar can only display the data your installed plugins and authenticated sources return. Some provider metadata and newer integrations require a source-build backend.

From individual icons to the way you move between accounts, every setting has a place. Open a category to see what you can change and where to find it in the GNOME preferences. Linux ports share the same provider settings, with separate controls for tray icons.

01Placement & componentsDecide where the bar lives and exactly how much space it takes.

Appearance → Panel / Top Bar Components

Panel position
Left, center, or right; position index from 0–20 within the chosen panel box.
Popup alignment
Align the popup left, center, or right relative to its panel indicator.
Visible components
Show or hide the meter, percentage, provider logo, and provider name. Drag enabled components into any order.
Provider count
Show 1–3 providers together, with 0–16 px spacing between them.
Pinned providers
Pin and drag-reorder favorites before the scrolling slots. Keep at least one slot free to cycle through other providers.
Usage bars
Choose 1–3 bars per provider, where data is available. Arrange them as vertical or horizontal stacks.
02Colors & provider identityMatch your panel, recognize providers your way, and let the logo carry useful information.

Normal meter color
Choose the color of usage meters below your first threshold.
Text and outlines
Choose a separate color for panel text, meter outlines, and monochrome provider icons.
Color picker or hex
Use the native color picker or enter a six-digit hex color. The two inputs stay in sync.
Global icon style
Choose color or monochromatic logos. Each provider can follow the default or override it.
Logo fill
Full, vertical, horizontal, or pie fill. Partial fills follow the selected used or remaining percentage.
Alternative marks
Choose Codex or OpenAI, Claude or Claude Code, and Microsoft Copilot or GitHub Copilot logos.
Custom source icons
Choose your own SVG for a custom command provider, or clear it to restore the fallback icon.

Meter meaning
Show remaining quota or used quota across the main usage displays.
Panel usage window
Session is the default when available. Choose another tracker or use Auto, which averages visible main quota windows and can fall back to extra usage when the primary quota is exhausted.
Usage trackers
Toggle individual session, weekly, and provider-specific meters in the popup and automatic meter.
Credits and cost
Individually show or hide discovered credit, balance, quota, and spending rows.
Pace
Show or hide the pace indicator when the backend supplies it.
Header shortcuts
Independently show or hide available usage-dashboard and status-page buttons.
04Thresholds & notificationsDefine what normal, getting close, and time to stop mean for you.

Your own states
Add, name, edit, and delete usage thresholds. Thresholds are ordered by percentage used.
Trigger percentage
Set each threshold from 0–100% used. Thresholds still track usage when meters show remaining quota.
A color for each state
Give every threshold its own color using a picker or hex value.
Notifications per threshold
Enable alerts only for the states you care about. Alerts fire when usage crosses upward into an enabled threshold.
Starting defaults
Warning at 75%, danger at 90%, and limit reached at 100%, with notifications off by default.
05Timing & interactionChoose when data updates, how resets read, and how you move between providers.

Refresh interval
Choose 1–1,440 minutes between CLI refreshes, or refresh immediately from the popup.
Reset display
Smart, relative, time only, day and time, or date and time. Smart includes the weekday for weekly resets.
Panel scrolling
Enable or disable scrolling on the panel indicator to cycle through unpinned providers.
Popup scrolling
Control popup scrolling separately. It can cycle through all providers, including pinned ones.
Preferred terminal
Use automatic terminal detection or choose an available terminal for CLI tools.
Backend paths
Auto-detect or choose the UsageStat executable and plugin directory for your installation.

Your provider order
Enable, disable, hide, and drag-reorder providers. Hidden providers remain available to restore.
Display names
Rename providers and additional sources so the panel and popup use the names that make sense to you.
Named sources
Add named provider instances for additional accounts or supported authentication sources.
Grouped tabs
Group extra accounts, API tracking, or custom sources under one parent provider tab, then reorder the child sections.
Source selection
Choose among the authentication and tracking methods supported by each provider, such as CLI, OAuth, web, API, or local data.
Custom commands
Add a command that returns UsageStat-style JSON and give the source a name and icon.
Per-provider choices
Give each provider its own icon style, panel tracker, visible meters, and credit or cost rows.

Preference availability follows the selected integration. Each demo uses its desktop’s default appearance, independently of this website’s light/dark setting.

CLI detection & checks

Auto-detect the usagestat executable or select a custom path. See the detected version or launch status, and copy the resolved path.

Plugin directory checks

Use automatic plugin discovery or select a folder. Inspect the discovered provider count and surface missing or invalid plugin setup.

Terminal shortcuts

Choose an available terminal and launch configuration validation, provider listing, usage, status, cost summaries, JSON/CSV exports, cache clearing, or CLI help.

The extension runs the installed CLI for usage. It does not require the background daemon; the daemon is for the backend dashboard, HTTP API, and T3 bridge.

For the GNOME integration, use the development link for local work, compile changed schemas, test in a nested GNOME Shell, and build a submission ZIP with the included helpers.

  • ./dev-link.sh links the working checkout into your extensions directory.
  • glib-compile-schemas schemas rebuilds changed settings schemas.
  • ./test-nested.sh and the shell helpers support development testing.
  • ./build.sh assembles the extension ZIP.

Beyond GNOME

The Linux ports include native panel widgets, shared GTK preferences, tray integration, and Waybar and Polybar modules. Desktop labs and disposable VM tests cover Linux installation and interaction. Windows uses the system tray, and macOS uses the menu bar.

What’s still being refined

The project tracks further threshold validation, notification wording and frequency controls, richer account setup, and additional provider-specific presets. These are ongoing work rather than promised release features.
